FAQS
What qualifications do I receive when I complete a course?
You’ll graduate with a nationally recognised qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework. Depending on your course, that could be a Certificate IV or a Diploma of Screen and Media, and both designed to help you work professionally as a makeup artist. For our Certificate in Makeup Artistry, you'll receive an industry recongised Certificate.
Are your courses nationally recognised?
Yes, the Academy of Makeup is an ASQA-accredited Registered Training Organisation. That means your Diploma or Certificate IV qualification is valid across Australia and recognised by employers in the makeup and beauty industry.
What’s the difference between the Diploma and Certificate in Makeup Artistry courses?
The Certificate course gives you essential makeup skills to get started. The Diploma goes deeper, with extra units in airbrush, special effects, hairstyling, period makeup, and film and TV techniques. It’s designed for students wanting a career across screen, media, and bridal work.
How long do the courses run for, and how often are classes?
It depends on the course and delivery format. Some are one day a week, others are more intensive. You can choose on-campus, online, or blended formats to suit your schedule. All timetables are explained on each course page.
What’s included in the makeup kit and tools I receive?
All Diploma, Certificate IV & Certificate in Makeup Artistry students receive a professional kit and brush set, customised to your course. The kit details are available on each course page and everything is selected to support your training and help you start working straight away.
Can I study online if I don’t live near a campus?
Yes, we offer a fully online version of our nationally recognised Diploma and many of our other courses. You can complete the course from anywhere in Australia, with structured lessons, video demos, and support from trainers.
How does the online course work and do I get trainer feedback?
Definitely. Our online students get feedback every week. You’ll watch demos, submit your work, and get responses from your trainer. You’ll also join a private online hub to chat with other students and ask questions as you go.
What if I miss a class or fall behind?
That’s okay, we’re flexible. If you miss a class, you might be able to catch up with a recorded session or come in on another day. Online students can re-watch lessons and submit later in the week. Just let us know if you need support.
Can I get a VET Student Loan for my course?
Yes, we’re an approved VET Student Loans provider. If you meet the eligibility requirements, you can defer part or all of your course fee for the Diploma. There’s more info and a loan calculator on our website.
What does the course cost, and are payment plans available?
We offer several ways to pay, including instalment plans and VET Student Loans. Course fees vary by course, and you'll find the full pricing and funding options on each course page.
How do I enrol, and what happens after I submit my enrolment form?
Enrolment is simple and online. Once you apply, a Course Advisor will be in touch to walk you through the next steps, including payment, confirming your place, and helping you get started in the student portal or Campus.
Is there a deadline to apply, or can I start anytime?
Most of our courses have fixed start dates, especially for on-campus study. Online students may have more flexibility. Either way, we recommend applying early to secure your place or access loan or scholarship options.
Will I get work experience during the course?
Yes. Our Diploma includes opportunities for you to access to our Work Experience Program, where students can work on real shoots, weddings, film sets, and creative projects. It’s a great way to build your portfolio and industry confidence.
Do graduates go on to get jobs in the industry?
They do. Our grads work in bridal, salons, e-commerce, TV, and even international productions. Many launch their own freelance businesses too. We focus on job-ready training and industry connections.
Can I use this qualification to freelance, work in salons, or on film sets?
Absolutely. Our training prepares you for all of that, including freelance work, salon jobs, TV sets, and more. We also include business basics like how to price your services, build your brand, and attract clients.
I’ve never studied makeup before — is this course still suitable for me?
Yes, absolutely. Many of our students start with no formal experience. Our courses are designed to teach you step-by-step, with plenty of guidance and hands-on practice.
Do I need to find my own models to practise on?
In most cases, yes, especially for assessments and practice sessions. If you're on campus, we also encourage students to work with each other or bring a model when required. We give plenty of notice so you can plan ahead.
Do I need to buy extra products during the course?
Your kit includes what you need for the majority of lessons. Occasionally, you may be asked to supply a basic item or a model with a specific skin tone or hair type, but this is kept minimal and manageable.
What happens if I decide to change my study mode (e.g. from on-campus to online)?
We understand that circumstances can change. If you need to switch between delivery modes, just reach out to your Course Advisor and we’ll work with you to find the best solution.
I’m working or studying something else, so can I still fit this course in?
Yes, you can. We offer flexible delivery options designed to fit around work, parenting, or other study. Whether you prefer one day a week on campus, online learning from home, or a blended option, you’ll be supported every step of the way. Many of our students successfully balance their training with busy lives.
